Hello Germany! What a beautiful country. We’ve arrived. After crazy weeks of packing our life in tiny boxes, gathering paperwork, ordering travel kennels for the pups and making sure we have plenty of clothes to live out of a suitcase for two months. We are finally here. Phew! Preparation and moving to a new country is exhausting. The last few months went by extremely fast. Like a whirlwind of craziness and poof, we’re here. Feels as though it was just yesterday when we got the news. Look at us now, German residents! (Elbowing Cecil and grinning ear to ear as type this new blog post). We haven’t been here for long, but it seems surreal living in this beautiful country. It feels as though we are on vacation and soon it will be time to go home. I can’t believe we live here. It hasn’t quite sunk in yet.
So far, the parts of the country that I’ve seen, which haven’t been very many, are beautiful. Wiesbaden, the city we live in now, is so full of history and charm. As I walk through the streets and they sing me their stories, I can’t help but feel incredible joy.
The weather in late September is a solid high 60 to low 70s. It is a welcomed change after the Texas melting heat. We got here right at the beginning of fall, so the leaves are barely starting to change colors. Being from Texas, I am excited to experience it entirely since I’ve never the fall season.
Tall trees perfectly lined decorate the streets. A different yet refreshing sight.
Transportation is convenient, and getting around is much easier. With the train, taxis, and bus routes a car is not necessary. Cecil and I drove on all the major highways in Houston because public transportation is non-existent. Here, we could get away with not having a car, but Cecil and I would miss Tony too much. Yes, we named our car. For those of you who don’t know where I-10 is, click on the link, and you will see what a monster of a highway it is; convenient when it’s not a parking lot.
Everyone speaks German. The younger crowd speaks Eglish a bit more. Generally, though, it seems they don’t like to deviate from their native tongue. I will admit, it is an ambiguous language for me, although I’ve already learned quite a few things. Read here why we decided to move to Germany.
Picturesque Wiesbaden is below, although they don’t do this city justice.
Thank you for stopping by to check how we are doing! You guys are the best.
