As a lover of all things retro and vintage, I get excited when putting together classic yet beautiful outfits that bring out the romantic in me. What can I say, little love letters, candlelit wine dinners and a handsome southern gentleman sweep me off my feet every time! Hopeless I tell you.

A TEXAS GIRL SURVIVING THE WINTER IN GERMANY
Honestly, trying to come up with cute outfits in the winter has been a real challenge, personally. I’ve discovered that layers are essential and well, sometimes you need to bundle up. A fluffy parka may not be sexy, but after walking around town in below freezing temperatures, caring about outfit quality kind of goes out the door. At temperatures that low, everything hurts. Your entire body goes numb. Your fingers feel, no wait; they don’t feel like anything. (Where did my fingers go? Do I even have fingers any more? [insert crying emoji face here] The excruciating pain when you begin to warm up will remind you otherwise. The mind focuses only on keeping warm, and a Parka gets the job done. Warmth, please! I may be exaggerating a bit, but this European winter has been rough for this Texatina y’all! (Texatina: A Latina from Texas)
A warm body like myself sometimes thinks twice before going outside, but then again, we only live this European opportunity once so what the heck, into the elements, I go!
STAPLE BASE
This classic yet chic outfit was perfect for our date night out in downtown Wiesbaden. (Read more about our life in Germany, here, here and here). Because of the windchill weather, I chose garments that I know will keep me warm and colors typical around this time of year. The wool skirt was perfect since the weather was a bit unforgiving this particular day. The color is neutral, so it goes with just about any color or pattern. To pair up with the skirt, I chose a wine (maroon) colored, long sleeve, high collared button down blouse that I purchased last year. The color goes well with grey and black, plus it’s one of my favorites in the fall and winter seasons. I love this color! I paired the outfit it with blackout tights to keep my legs warm, and wedges. Walking on cobble-stoned streets is a challenge in and of itself. Wedges decreased my chances of twisted ankles. Some days I like to take my chances, this time though, I wasn’t up for the ankle workout.
Skirts I am loving right now!
FINISHING TOUCHES
To finish off the look, you can style your hair with curls or go with a simple, sleek straight style like mine. I chose to keep my hair straight because I was short on time. My make up was almost natural. Most colors like eyeshadow were neutrals. For pop, I added wings (eyeliner) to my eyes.
To keep warm I added a dark grey, belted, double-breasted coat to accentuate my waist. (Similar to this one.)
ADDITIONAL TIP: Add a simple necklace and jewelry.
